You can use a number of online tools to make your image file size smaller. The benefit of using these tools is that the job is done within a fraction of the time. The whole process is automatic and you don’t have to do manual work most of the time.
To use these tools, you don’t have to put anything on your PC. They work with the web browser you use. Some of the tools are paid and some of them are free of cost. So we were gonna tell you about the free online image compressor tool.
Tool #1. Squoosh
Squoosh was created by the Chrome Labs team. The web app can only handle one image at a time, but it has several options for reducing size, changing the color palette, choosing a compression method and level, and a lot of other advanced settings.
The best thing about the Squoosh website is that you can compare the size of the original image to the size of the compressed image. This lets you know right away if the text on an image is still readable.
Tool #2. WebUtils Bulk Image Compress
The only downside of the upper discussed image compressor tool is that you can work with one image at a time. But this is not the case with this image compression tool.
WebUtils Bulk Image Compress lets you compress images and convert them to WebP, JPG, PNG, AVIF, and JXL. Though it’s not clear if there are any size or quantity restrictions, converting many files at once can be a time-consuming process. Quality and size can also be changed, and everything is done on the client side.
Tool #3. Compress now
Compress Now is a simple and easy-to-use image compression tool. It is great for compressing images in different formats. This tool is another best option for image compression. Easy to use simple yet powerful. Yes, the tool does not have advanced functions, but it’s free.
You don’t have to sign up for an account or give any personal information. Drag and drop your files into the Compress Now window, choose a compression level, and click the Compress button. Your files will be shrunk down.
Tool #4. Optimizilla
This online image optimizer uses a smart combination of the best optimization and lossy compression algorithms to shrink JPEG, GIF, and PNG images to the smallest size possible while keeping the required level of quality.
You can add up to 20 pictures. Just wait until the compression is done. To set the quality, click on the thumbnails in the queue. Use the slider to change how much the images are compressed, and use the mouse or gestures to compare them.
Tool #5. Shrink Media
Shrink Media lets you optimize PNG, JPEG, and WebP images with a resolution of up to 5000×5000, and it’s also available as an app for iOS and Android mobile devices. You can use the fancy sliders to change the level of quality and the size of the photo. You can also add a URL to an image, but you can only optimize one image at a time with this tool.
Decrease the image size by changing the resolution of the image
The main reason behind the large image size is its resolution. More pixels mean more data and more data means a big size of the image. To fix this issue, you can simply lower the picture resolution. Although this can severely impact the image quality.
This method is not recommended if you did not know much about image resolution. This method is only recommended for advanced users. Sometimes, even advanced users are stuck while resizing images while maintaining image quality and aspect ratio.
Maybe you’re to resize the image with MS paint. But personally, I did not recommend you, to do that. Because you might end up wasting your image quality. The best solution to this problem is to import the image into photoshop or illustrator and export it for the Web. And make sure to choose a format JPEG and quality between 30 to 60.
Decrease the image size by removing the image’s metadata
When you take a picture. Some of the information about the camera and its settings is saved with that picture. This information is called metadata, and it usually includes things like the name of the camera used to take the picture, the settings that were used when the picture was taken, and so on.
If you don’t want to use this information, you can delete it. This will make your image file smaller. Note that the metadata won’t make a big difference in the size of your image file because it doesn’t take up too much space.
- Right-click the image you want to shrink on your Windows computer and choose Properties.
- In the Properties window, click on the Details tab.
Choose Remove Properties and Personal Information at the bottom of the Details tab.
- On the next screen, click Create a copy with no properties and then click OK at the bottom.
- Windows will copy your image and put it in the same folder as the original. All the metadata has been taken out of this copy of your image.
You can quickly and easily reduce the file size of any of your images by using the different methods described above. We will try to keep this list updated as new and new exciting tools are discovered by our team.
